Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested Chinedu Aniekuoku over the alleged unlawful confinement and maltreatment of his sister, Grace Aniekuoku, in a shocking case that has sparked nationwide outrage and dominated social media conversations.

The disturbing incident, which allegedly unfolded over four years in the Mpape area of Abuja’s Maitama Extension, has triggered calls for justice and renewed conversations about domestic abuse, family betrayal and mental health awareness.

Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja on Monday, FCT Commissioner of Police Ahmed Sanusi confirmed the arrest of Chinedu Aniekuoku following a distress report received by the command on June 12.

Sources within the community described the conditions as inhumane, saying the room had little to no access to natural light and that she was entirely dependent on others for food, water and basic survival.

The prolonged confinement allegedly left her physically debilitated and unable to walk independently.

How the Shocking Discovery Was Made

The secret reportedly came to light on Saturday, June 13, 2026.

According to residents, a passerby fetching water near the compound heard unusual sounds, including the rattling of chains, weak cries and groaning noises coming from a locked structure.

Alarmed by the sounds, he alerted other community members.

As suspicions grew, residents reportedly forced their way into the enclosed area.

Inside, they discovered an emaciated woman, later identified as Grace Aniekuoku, allegedly chained and barely able to move.

The discovery left many residents visibly emotional, with some reportedly breaking down in tears while others expressed anger and disbelief.

She was immediately rescued and transported to a medical facility for urgent treatment and rehabilitation.

Police Investigate Additional Claims

The case has become even more disturbing following reports that Grace Aniekuoku’s young daughter has not been seen for several years.

Community members have raised concerns and are demanding answers regarding the child’s whereabouts.

However, police authorities have not established any connection between the child’s disappearance and Grace’s alleged captivity.

Investigators are expected to examine all aspects of the case, including allegations of unlawful detention, physical abuse, possible financial exploitation and any other related offences.
