In a shocking twist to recent kidnapping incidents along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, operatives of the Anti-Cult Squad of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested two sisters, Juliet Chukwu and Ngozi Nancy Chukwu, for allegedly orchestrating the abduction of their own elder brother, Mr. Friday Chukwu, and a second victim, Engr. Igwe Denis Chibueze.
The sisters, identified as personnel of two federal paramilitary agencies — Juliet serving in the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Ngozi in the Nigeria Immigration Service — were apprehended after weeks of intensive investigation by security agents.
According to security sources, Mr. Friday Chukwu, who hails from Amaeze Ishiagu, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, was kidnapped in May 2025 along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway. It was alleged that a ransom of ₦30 million was paid before his release.
Barely a month later, on Monday, July 14, 2025, Engr. Igwe Denis Chibueze, the Community Liaison Officer (CLO) of China Oriental Quarry Company, was also abducted along the same route, with the kidnappers demanding ₦10 million for his release.
However, luck ran out on the syndicate when security operatives, acting on intelligence, trailed the suspects to a hotel where they were allegedly sharing the ransom proceeds. The sisters were arrested at the scene.
Investigations further revealed that the two suspects may be connected to a string of criminal activities in and around Ishiagu, including alleged collaboration with armed herders to stage kidnappings, vandalism of oil pipelines, and looting of railway infrastructure.
While the full extent of their network remains under investigation, security experts and community leaders have called for a thorough prosecution of the suspects, emphasizing that this case must not be swept under the rug like previous incidents.
“This is a betrayal of public trust,” a community source said. “The law enforcement agencies where they serve — NSCDC and Immigration — must not shield them. These allegations are serious and must be treated with the full weight of the law.”
The Enugu State Police Command is yet to release an official statement as investigations continue.
All individuals mentioned remain innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
