The President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), Mr. Jibril Ojih Saidu (FNIQS), has officially arrived in Cairo, Egypt, to play a pivotal leadership role in the 40th Congress of the International Handball Federation (IHF) and the 24th Elective Ordinary Congress of the Confederation of African Handball (CAHB).

Mr. Saidu touched down at Cairo International Airport in the early hours of Saturday, December 19, 2025, via an Ethiopian Airlines flight. He was accorded a high-level reception by top officials from the IHF and CAHB, signaling Nigeria’s solidified status as a powerhouse in international handball administration.

Demonstrating the immense trust reposed in Nigerian sports administrators, Mr. Saidu was elected Chairman of the Electoral Committee of the Confederation of African Handball on Friday, December 19. In this capacity, the HFN President is currently presiding over and conducting the 24th Elective Ordinary Congress, overseeing the process that will determine the new executive leadership for African handball.

Beyond his continental duties, Mr. Saidu is representing Nigeria at the 40th IHF Congress, a global assembly of national federation presidents and secretaries-general. This Congress is set to define the strategic direction of the sport worldwide and usher in new leadership for several international bodies.

Significantly, Mr. Saidu—who currently serves as the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Handball Association (CHA)—is seeking re-election for a second term. His candidacy is widely viewed as a testament to his successful track record in developing handball across Commonwealth nations.

The main CAHB presidential and executive elections are scheduled to reach their climax later tonight in Cairo.

Nigeria’s active and high-profile participation in these global elections reinforces the nation’s ambition to lead in the governance and development of handball.

As the IHF Congress continues, the Nigerian delegation remains focused on securing key partnerships and policy wins that will further elevate the sport within Nigeria and across the African continent.
