Nigerian striker Akor Adams, a key player for Sevilla in the 2025/26 season, has shared his thoughts on the ElGranDerbi between his team and rivals, Real Betis.

The rivalry history between Sevilla FC and Real Betis shows a slight edge for Sevilla. Since their first LaLiga encounter on February 3, 1935, when Betis won 3-0 in NerviĂłn, there have been 109 matches in LALIGA EA SPORTS. Of these, Sevilla has won 50, Betis 32, and 27 ended in a draw.

Although Adams has not yet scored in an ElGranDerbi, he nearly did in the March 2026 derby. He was active during the game, with a shot saved in the 77th minute and his late attempt cleared off the line in a 2-2 draw.

During an interactive session organised by LALIGA on Tuesday, Adams talked about the ElGranDerbi with a select group of journalists.

“I think some things in life can’t really be explained. You just have to experience them.

” And the ElGranDerbi is one of those moments. It’s not just about the points. It’s pure football and passion from Sevillistas, BĂ©ticos, and the entire city, which resonates with football all week.

“As a footballer, experiencing that kind of atmosphere is something you can only prepare for so much. What happens on game day is entirely different. I enjoyed the match, especially the one we played away.

“We came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2, and almost won in the last minute. It was a fantastic experience. Everyone should have that experience at least once in their lifetime,”

Akor Adams, 26, who has 8 La Liga goals and 3 assists in 26 appearances, earned a nomination for the 2025/26 SPORTY LALIGA MVP award, which recognises the best African player in Spain’s top flight.
