A case of alleged grievous child abuse involving three minors in Agbor, Delta State, has led to the detention of their stepmother, Mrs. Peace Nwokolo, and a swift, comprehensive intervention by the State Government to protect the children.
Mrs. Nwokolo is presently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Delta State Police Command in Asaba, where she is undergoing due investigative procedures.
Children Share Shocking Details from Hospital Bed
The incident came to light following reports that three minors were subjected to severe abuse by the woman identified by their father, Mr. Charles Egbenoma, as his woman friend, Peace Nwokolo. Ms. Nwokolo had reportedly moved into the family home less than two months after the children’s mother, Late Lady Anthonia Elohor Egbenoma, succumbed to cancer in 2024. Ms. Nwokolo is also noted as a single mother of two children from two different fathers.
A correspondent from PMTV visited the children on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at the General Hospital where they are admitted and currently receiving treatment. The minors, described as intelligent with a good command of English, reportedly shared “shocking details” of their ordeal at the hands of their stepmother. Graphic images of the children’s “gory… wounds” were noted as too severe to be shared publicly due to social media community standards.
In a decisive move to secure the children’s welfare, the Delta State Government has assumed full custody and responsibility for the minors, ensuring their immediate protection, care, and well-being. This action underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to social justice and the protection of the vulnerable.

Police Professionalism and Search for Fourth Child
The Delta State Command was acknowledged for its professionalism, diligence, and active engagement, particularly the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, whose “timely communication and responsiveness played a vital role.”
Meanwhile, new information surfaced regarding the family, suggesting Mr. Charles Egbenoma may have four children, not three. The whereabouts of the fourth child, identified as Gabriella, remain unknown, as the father reportedly failed to mention her during an interview. An urgent appeal has been issued for anyone with the contact of the late wife’s relatives to come forward to assist in locating Gabriella and ensuring all the children are safe.
Advocates are strongly urging that the children “cannot be left in the hands of their father anymore” due to ongoing safety concerns.
Mrs. Nwokolo remains in police custody and is expected to face charges.
