Popular Lagos socialite, Olaseni Johnson Olayinka, widely known as Abu Abel, has been arrested by operatives of the Force Criminal Investigations Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, over his alleged involvement in a staggering ₦447 million land scam.
The arrest was executed by a tactical unit led by CSP Taiwo Oyewole under the directive of AIG Margaret Ochalla. According to police sources, Abu Abel had been on the run for weeks, evading arrest and attempting to derail ongoing investigations. He was finally apprehended at a residence in Victoria Island, where he had been hiding.
Investigations reveal that Abu Abel fraudulently sold three plots of land located in Eti-Osa Local Government Area to Doyin Investment Group, falsely presenting himself as the legitimate owner. A deed of assignment was reportedly signed, and full payment was made to the suspect.
However, trouble began when it was discovered that the land in question had already been claimed by a third party. Although Abu Abel refunded ₦230 million, he allegedly defaulted on the remaining ₦217 million and has since been accused of attempting to obstruct justice by filing a fundamental rights enforcement suit.
Further findings indicate that the suspect is also under investigation for his suspected ties to a secret cult, which is reportedly involved in land grabbing and organized fraud activities across Lagos.
Police authorities have confirmed that Abu Abel will be arraigned soon, as investigations continue to uncover the full scope of his alleged criminal activities.
