A wave of national outrage is raging after a harrowing video surfaced, revealing members of the Anambra State vigilante outfit—Operation Udo Ga-Achi (also known as the Agunechemba Vigilante Group)—invading a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) lodge in Oba, Anambra State, on July 23, 2025, where they brutally assaulted and stripped a female corps member, Jennifer Edema Elohor, naked .

The Incident

The footage, shared by the Haven 360 Foundation on Facebook, documents a disturbing scene of armed men bursting into the lodge, physically assaulting corps members and severely humiliating them. Despite the corps members presenting their NYSC identification cards and wearing their uniforms, the vigilantes accused them of being internet fraudsters (commonly referred to as “Yahoo Yahoo”) and continued with the assault .

Jennifer Edema Elohor was singled out for particularly savage treatment—beaten mercilessly, stripped naked, left bleeding, and subjected to sexually degrading threats and language .

Reaction from Human Rights and Civic Groups

The Haven 360 Foundation issued a powerful condemnation of the atrocity, labeling it a gross violation of fundamental human rights and dignity. The foundation emphasized:

“We strongly condemn the brutal assault and violation of rights of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members by operatives of Operation Udo Ga-Achi… The assault was particularly egregious… The victims were subjected to unsavoury, horrible, sexually degrading words and actions, including threats of sexual violation.”

Several human rights organizations and media outlets—including Okay.ng, Legit.ng, PM News Nigeria, and MouthpieceNGR—have echoed this condemnation and demanded immediate investigation and prosecution of those responsible .

Government Response

Although video evidence circulated publicly a month after the incident, as of now there appears to be no sign of justice or accountability, escalating public frustration .

However, a Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo has acknowledged the incident, calling it “unacceptable” and confirming that security operatives involved have been arrested—though further details and outcomes remain undisclosed .

Public and Legal Implications

This shocking case has amplified a broader conversation on the unchecked power of local security outfits and the dire need for government oversight. Many Nigerians via social media have implored Governor Soludo to ensure justice is served, using compelling hashtags and digital campaigns to bring attention to the issue.
