The curtain fell on the 5th Edition of the Ibidapo Ibikunle Football Championship in an entertaining grand finale on Sunday at the Ataoja School of Science, Osogbo, with Premium Boyz FC emerging champions after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Golden Boys FC.
The decisive moment came in the first half when Premium Boyz FC found the back of the net following a scramble in the box, and despite Golden Boys’ relentless push for an equalizer, the scoreline remained unchanged until the referee’s final whistle.
The championship, proudly sponsored by philanthropist Mr. Ibidapo Ibikunle and organized by the Olorunda Coaches Council under the leadership of Coach Bakare Kayode, attracted an impressive array of dignitaries. Leading the guest list was Osun State Football Association Chairman, Mayor Sola Fanawopo, accompanied by the FA Secretary Mr. Abayomi Amoo, the chief sponsor Mr. Ibidapo Ibikunle, football stakeholders, partners, fans, family, and friends.
In his post-match remarks after the trophy and award presentations, Mr. Ibikunle expressed gratitude to all supporters of the grassroots tournament, sharing his delight at the successful completion of yet another edition.
“It continues to get better, and by God’s grace, the next edition will surpass this one,” he said.
