Chairman of the Lagos State Football Coaches Association (LSFCA), Prince Coach Tairu Adewale Hassan, has strongly condemned what he described as acts of misinformation, indiscipline and desperation by some members of the association ahead of the forthcoming state election.
In a media release issued on Monday, Hassan reaffirmed his position as the duly elected chairman of the association, insisting that attempts by some individuals to destabilise the body would only undermine the integrity and collective image of football coaches in Lagos State.
The LSFCA boss expressed concern over what he termed a sustained campaign of falsehood and character assassination allegedly orchestrated by some aggrieved members, warning that such actions could negatively affect the association’s reputation among stakeholders in Nigerian football.
“I, Tairu Adewale Hassan, remain the elected and rightful State Chairman of the Lagos State Football Coaches Association. The future we desire cannot be built by individuals with bad intentions and a gangster-like attitude,” he stated.
Hassan alleged that some members had resorted to using public platforms, including television appearances, to spread misleading narratives in a bid to gain an advantage ahead of the election.
According to him, some of those involved had previously been entrusted with leadership responsibilities within the association but failed to deliver on their mandates.
The chairman maintained that whatever progress the association had recorded over the years was achieved through collective efforts, driven by his leadership, executive members and coaches genuinely committed to the development of football coaching in Lagos State.
He disclosed that the matter had already been formally reported to both the South-West zonal leadership and the national body of the football coaches’ association for appropriate action.
Hassan further urged members, particularly younger coaches, to prioritise unity, professionalism and mutual respect instead of engaging in public confrontations.
“As football coaches, we should be ambassadors of discipline and development. We must stop criticising and insulting one another before stakeholders because it is becoming embarrassing for the profession,” he said.
The LSFCA chairman also cautioned against electing leaders based on desperation rather than competence, stressing that leadership positions should be occupied by individuals with integrity, sound character and strong moral values.
He announced that the association’s Electoral Committee had been constituted and encouraged all interested candidates to obtain nomination forms through the appropriate channels.
The Lagos football coaching community has been at the centre of several reforms in recent years, particularly regarding coach education, licensing and professional development. Lagos remains one of Nigeria’s most active football hubs, with the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) overseeing numerous grassroots and elite football programmes across the state. The association has also partnered with the Nigeria Institute for Sports (NIS) to improve coaching standards and professional certification for coaches operating within Lagos.
Recent months have also witnessed disagreements between certain football stakeholders and administrators within the state’s coaching structure, highlighting the need for stronger institutional collaboration and conflict resolution mechanisms.
It is believed that the forthcoming LSFCA election will be pivotal in shaping the future of football coaching administration in Lagos, especially at a time when emphasis is being placed on coach education, grassroots development and governance reforms.
In his closing remarks, Hassan called on all members to place the association’s interests above personal ambitions.
“Building a better association requires more than wishes. We must choose leaders with good character and strong values. Together, we can preserve the unity and progress of our association,” he said.
