With just days to the start of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, has charged Team Nigeria athletes to remain focused, disciplined and patriotic as they conclude the final phase of their overseas training camp in Aberdeen, Scotland.
Addressing the athletes and officials on Thursday, Olopade commended the team’s dedication throughout the intensive training programme, describing the camp as a clear demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to providing Nigerian athletes with the best possible preparation for international competitions.
The NSC Director General noted that the world-class training environment and comprehensive support provided for Team Nigeria underscore the determination of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to reposition Nigerian sports and create an enabling atmosphere for athletes to excel on the global stage.
Olopade urged the athletes to remain fully committed to their preparations as they prepare to depart for Glasgow, where the Commonwealth Games will officially get underway in the coming days.
He reminded the contingent that they would not only be competing for medals but also carrying the hopes and aspirations of millions of Nigerians, stressing the importance of discipline, unity, patriotism and exemplary conduct throughout the Games.
“I urge every one of you to remain focused, committed and patriotic. Let your performances reflect the resilience and fighting spirit of Nigeria. Stay disciplined, avoid every form of distraction or scandal, and compete with integrity. The nation believes in your abilities, and I am confident you will make Nigeria proud.”
Olopade further assured the athletes that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is closely following their preparations and eagerly looks forward to receiving the team after the Games, expressing confidence that they would return home with outstanding performances worthy of national celebration.
