Benue Buffaloes have emerged champions of the North Central Zone qualifiers of the 4×4 Handball Championship after defeating FCT 10–8 in an exciting final match to secure qualification for the National 4×4 Handball Championship scheduled for September.

The Buffaloes dominated the competition, winning all four of their matches to finish top of the standings with eight points and a goal difference of +40. FCT claimed second place with six points, while Suleja Academy finished third. Texas Warriors and Liberation Academy completed the standings in fourth and fifth positions respectively.

President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), Mr. Jibril Saidu Ojih, congratulated Benue Buffaloes on their triumph and praised the quality of play displayed throughout the championship.

He said the competition reflects the federation’s commitment to developing handball across the country and creating more opportunities for young athletes to showcase their talents.

“The North Central Championship has once again demonstrated the immense talent we have within our handball community. I congratulate Benue Buffaloes for earning their place at the National 4×4 Championship and commend all participating teams for their sportsmanship and competitive spirit,” Ojih said.

“The 4×4 format continues to grow and attract interest across the country. Our goal is to use competitions like this to deepen grassroots development, discover new talents and strengthen the future of Nigerian handball. We look forward to an exciting national championship in September,” he added.

Cash prizes and medals were presented to the teams that finished in first, second and third positions, while individual awards were also handed out to the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP), Highest Goal Scorer and Best Goalkeeper in recognition of their outstanding performances throughout the competition.

The championship attracted top officials and stakeholders, including HFN Secretary General, Mrs. Monica Otumala, Director of Sports, Benue State Sports Commission, Mr. Anthony Torbundeh, and Chairman of the Benue State Handball Association, Mr. Tony Oyih, who hosted the event.
