The 2nd National U-12 and U-15 Handball Championship commenced earlier today, Tuesday, March 25, 2026, at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Umuahia Township Stadium, Abia State, following the successful completion of the mandatory screening exercise for all participating teams.

Organised by the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN) in collaboration with the Abia State Government, the championship brings together emerging talents from across the country, with competition structured in a round-robin format as resolved during the pre-tournament technical meeting.

Teams confirmed for the championship include Team Niger, C&S FPS Academy (Kwara), Team Bauchi, Team Kwara, and Team Abia in both the Under-12 and Under-15 boys’ categories. In the girls’ events, Nuela Angels (Kwara), Girl Child (Benue), and Team Abia are competing in both the Under-12 and Under-15 categories.

The opening day delivered thrilling encounters across all categories, showcasing the depth of young handball talent in Nigeria.

In the Under-12 girls’ category, hosts Team Abia secured a convincing 23–8 victory over Nuela Angels, leading 12–5 at halftime.

The Under-15 girls’ category saw a dominant performance from Nuela Angels, who defeated Girl Child of Benue 33–13 after establishing a 15–5 halftime lead.

In the Under-12 boys’ category, C&S FPS Academy displayed attacking superiority with a commanding 32–12 win over Team Abia, having led 16–9 at the break.

The Under-15 boys’ category featured high-scoring encounters, with Team Niger overpowering Team Kwara 61–22 (32–10 at halftime), while C&S FPS Academy cruised past Team Bauchi with a 45–17 victory.

With the championship now fully underway, teams will continue to battle for supremacy as hostilities resume on Day 2, with more exciting fixtures expected at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
