Jibril Saidu Ojih Pledges Unity, Transparency, and Growth in Nigerian Handball

Newly elected President of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), Jibril Saidu Ojih (FNIQS), has promised to usher in a new era of unity, transparency, and grassroots development in Nigerian handball. He made the pledge in his inaugural address following his emergence as President after a keenly contested election held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

Speaking with humility and gratitude, Ojih expressed appreciation to delegates, stakeholders, and fans who supported his vision, describing his victory as “a testament to the strength of our shared vision for Nigerian handball.”

“We will focus on grassroots development, player welfare, infrastructure growth, and international competitiveness,” he stated. “But more than anything, we will cultivate a culture of love, peace, and unity.”

The new HFN President emphasized inclusivity, equity, and transparency as the cornerstones of his leadership, assuring that his administration would be one of consolidation and continuity built upon the achievements of his predecessor, Mr. Samuel Ocheho, whom he described as a “selfless leader who laid a solid foundation for growth.”

In a gesture of sportsmanship, Ojih extended an olive branch to his opponents, calling on all stakeholders to set aside their differences and work collectively toward advancing the sport.

He also unveiled his key agenda for the next phase of handball development in Nigeria, which includes:

  • Promoting love and unity among stakeholders;
  • Reviving grassroots handball through zonal empowerment;
  • Adopting a player-centric approach focused on welfare and facilities;
  • Expanding international collaborations with CAHF and IHF;
  • Ensuring transparency and innovation in administration;
  • Strengthening partnerships and sponsorships;
  • Prioritizing youth development through schools and academies; and
  • Advancing women’s participation and leadership in handball.

Ojih concluded his address with a message of hope and renewal, affirming his commitment to lead with integrity and passion.

“Together, we will build on the past, embrace the future, and ensure that Nigerian handball takes its rightful place on the global stage,” he said.

His emergence and address have been warmly received within the handball community, signaling optimism for a vibrant new chapter in the administration of the sport in Nigeria.
