Gunman in Midtown Massacre Identified as Ex-Football Player with Casino Security Background.
The man behind Monday evening’s horrific mass shooting in Midtown Manhattan has been identified as Shane Devon Tamura, a 27-year-old former high school football player and casino security guard from Las Vegas, Nevada.
Tamura opened fire with an AR-style rifle around 6:30 PM inside the 44-story office tower at 345 Park Avenue, home to financial giant Blackstone and the NFL’s headquarters. He wore a bullet-resistant vest and carried a rifle equipped with a silencer. Eyewitnesses described a surreal scene as gunshots rang out in the building’s lobby packed with over 30 people.

A vehicle with Nevada license plates and a rifle case believed to belong to him was found parked near the scene. Security footage captured Tamura in a button-down shirt and sport coat calmly approaching the building with the weapon.

Among the deceased is Officer Didarul Islam, who was working off-duty security at the time. He and one civilian were listed in critical condition following the initial attack. Four others suffered various injuries, but their conditions have not been disclosed.
The NYPD confirmed the scene is now secure, and federal investigators have joined local authorities in a full-scale probe into Tamura’s background, digital history, and any documented grievances.
