The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Bukola Olopade, has expressed confidence in Lagos State’s readiness to successfully host the maiden edition of the Intermediate Games following the inaugural meeting of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) and Main Organising Committee (MOC).
The meeting, hosted by the Lagos State Sports Commission, took place at the Teslim Balogun Stadium Sports Complex in Lagos and marked a significant step towards preparations for the groundbreaking competition.
Chaired by the Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, the gathering brought together members of both the LOC and MOC, alongside key stakeholders tasked with ensuring the successful delivery of the Games.
Addressing the committees, Fatodu provided a comprehensive overview of the state’s level of preparedness, highlighting ongoing facility upgrades, infrastructure improvements, and construction projects designed to meet the standards required for the competition. He reaffirmed Lagos State’s commitment to hosting a memorable and successful event.
Speaking at the meeting, Olopade commended the efforts of the Lagos State Sports Commission and expressed delight at the progress made so far. The NSC boss stated that he was confident Lagos possesses the capacity, experience, and infrastructure necessary to stage a successful inaugural edition of the Games.
Olopade further explained that the Intermediate Games were conceived as a strategic platform to bridge the developmental gap between the National Youth Games and the National Sports Festival, providing young athletes with an additional avenue for growth, exposure, and competitive experience.
According to him, the competition is expected to play a vital role in strengthening Nigeria’s sports development pathway and enhancing talent identification across the country.
As part of the day’s activities, members of both committees embarked on an inspection tour of the sporting facilities designated for the Games. The tour enabled officials to assess the level of readiness of the venues and identify areas requiring further attention ahead of the event.
