Doma United’s debut in the Gold Cup pre-season tournament saw them fall 2-1 to Grassrunners FC at MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, despite scoring early in the second minute.
The match was a tale of two halves, with Doma United dominating the first 45 minutes. They capitalised on Grassrunners FC’s poor defending to take the lead through Fantami Yusuf, which they maintained at halftime.
The second half saw Grassrunners FC equalise in the 73rd minute via Adeola Fadel, who headed in a set-piece from close range.
Savannah Tigers’ situation worsened when Elumon Christian was sent off, allowing Grassrunners FC to capitalise with Musa Lasisi scoring a late goal in added time to secure the victory.
Meanwhile, the opening fixture between Stormers SC and Dokkal Khairu was an exciting 4-goal thriller.
Dokkal Khairu took an early lead through Yusuff Sulaiman in the 8th minute, but Stormers SC responded quickly with Isa Obajumo’s goal. Just before halftime,
Adewale Ademola extended the lead to 2-1. Stormers SC’s defending was costly, as a late penalty awarded against them was calmly converted by Adeosun Dauda, levelling the score at 2-2.
