The Osun State Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Sports, Prince Kola Adewusi, on Thursday conducted an inspection visit to the Osogbo Township Stadium to assess the progress of the ongoing renovation and upgrade of the iconic sports facility.
During the inspection, Prince Adewusi toured all sections of the stadium alongside project supervisors from Maxwell International Ventures Limited, the contractor handling the comprehensive redevelopment project.
The Deputy Governor carefully evaluated the level of work done so far, stressing the need for strict adherence to international standards in all aspects of the project.
While commending the progress recorded in some areas, Prince Adewusi expressed serious concerns over the quality of the tartan athletics track, noting that the current work falls short of the expected global standard.
Addressing the contractors on site, the Deputy Governor insisted that immediate corrections must be made to avoid complications after completion of the project.
“I want this tartan track corrected immediately. It should be done now before it becomes difficult to address after the entire job has been completed,” Adewusi stated firmly.
He emphasized that the Osun State Government is committed to delivering a modern sports facility capable of hosting national and international competitions, stressing that quality must not be compromised at any stage of the project.
The renovation of the Osogbo Township Stadium is part of the broader sports infrastructure development agenda of the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, aimed at transforming the facility into a world-class sports complex. The project includes major upgrades such as multiple international-standard pitches, an indoor sports hall, tartan athletics tracks, a swimming pool, improved seating areas, and athlete accommodation facilities.
Originally designed as a multi-purpose facility with a capacity of about 20,000 spectators, the stadium has long served as one of Osun State’s major sporting venues but had suffered years of neglect before the current remodeling initiative.
Officials say the ongoing redevelopment is expected to reposition Osun State as a major destination for sporting events in Nigeria, capable of hosting competitions such as the National Sports Festival, youth championships, and other high-profile tournaments.
