The countdown continues and in just 14 days, Rwanda will proudly host the 27th Men’s Senior Handball Africa Cup of Nations. From January 21st to 31st, 2026, the finest handballers from across the continent will gather in Kigali to compete for the ultimate continental prize.
This tournament, organized by CAHB in partnership with FERWAHAND and the Rwanda Ministry of Sports, serves as a critical milestone—not just for the trophy, but as a primary qualifying event for the 2027 IHF World Men’s Handball Championship.
As we count down the final two weeks to the 27th Men’s Senior Handball Africa Cup of Nations, the Rwanda National Handball Team has entered its most intensive phase of preparation. Currently focusing on high-intensity gym sessions and tactical drills, the squad is sharpening the physical edge required to compete with Africa’s elites (As can be seen in the attached images).
This year’s “Amavubi” squad is built on the dominant foundations of Rwanda’s premier handball clubs, Police HC and APR HC. These players carry the experience of domestic dominance onto the continental stage, led by a core of “crucial” talents:

Under the tutelage of Tunisian tactician Hafedh Zouabi, the home team is not just playing for pride—they are playing for a ticket to the world stage. The top five finishers in Kigali will officially qualify for the 2027 IHF World Men’s Handball Championship in Germany.
Rwanda (the hosts) faces a steep climb in Group A, drawn alongside seven-time champions Algeria, as well as Nigeria and Zambia.
The first match of the entire tournament will feature Rwanda facing Zambia on January 21, 2026.
This marks the first time Rwanda has hosted the Senior Men’s Africa Cup of Nations and the first time the event has ever been held in East Africa.
The tournament serves as the official African qualifying event for the 30th IHF Men’s World Championship; securing a top-five spot is a primary goal for Coach Zouabi’s fearless squad.
