Team Nigeria continued its blistering form at the ongoing 1st African School Games in Algeria, delivering another standout performance on Day 2 of the athletics events. The young athletes added four medals to Nigeria’s growing tally—one gold, two silver, and one bronze—reaffirming the country’s status as a rising powerhouse in youth athletics on the continent.
The biggest moment of the day came in the girls’ 100m final, where Nigeria secured a remarkable gold-silver finish. Chigozie Rosemary Nwankwo stormed to victory in 11.76 seconds, claiming gold in style. Her teammate, Miracle Ezechukwu, was hot on her heels, clinching the silver medal with a time of 11.86 seconds. The bronze medal went to Ndoulou Boukama of Congo, who finished in 12.19 seconds.
In the girls’ 400m final, Jecinter Lawrence Andrew ran a composed and strategic race, finishing second and earning Nigeria its second silver of the day.
Meanwhile, in the boys’ 400m final, Faye Perfect displayed grit and determination in a tightly contested race, finishing third to claim the bronze medal for Team Nigeria.
Saturday’s achievements bring Nigeria’s total medal haul in athletics at the Games to six, showcasing depth and consistency across multiple events.
As more finals approach in the coming days, Team Nigeria remains focused and determined to build on its early success and maintain its dominance on the track.
